Is it because l am suffering from depression, that makes me feel unloyal,or is it normal to do this, and l cannot help it, and feel bad because of the mental illness. When you think about this if it is not being unloyal to them, what would be a word that would describe what l am experiencing.

l know how you feel. It is no disloyal though. You will never love every (in my case, dogs) pet the same. They all have individual personalities and you will have a different bond with your new one than you did with your old one. Just because you get a new dog when the old one dies, does not mean you love the old one any less.

l had a dog named Goober for about 4 years. He was my best friend. And l do mean best friend. Then he passed. l was heartbroken. l am still heartbroken because of it. There r still days when l just break down thinking about him. His passing was 4 years ago. & l still have not let it go.

However, l did get a new dog about a year after Goober dying. l did feel guilty. l felt like l was betraying him. But, with time l grew to love this new dog & not feel so guilty. l even got 2 more dogs eventually. l think l kept getting dogs to try & replace Goober. But, l know that there will never be one just like him.

It is normal to love a dog like we do, so do not worry about it. You r not being unloyal. u need a companion.

Btw, l named all three of my dogs in remembrance of Goober. Each of there names is related to him. So, in a way it was a tribute.
