l have been suffering from anxiety and recently panic attacks and l was wanting to know what type of doctor diagnoses these problems. Do l need a medical doctor or a psychologist?

The MD is going to be the one who is able to diagnose and treat.

l would start w/ your family md and she can refer you to someone else if need be

If you have a good general practice doctor whom you are comfortable talking with, then her. (or him) If your DR is an egomaniac or unaccessable, find a clinical psychologist who has a psychiatrist to write scripts (if one will even be necessary) or a clinical social worker with teh same connections. Either way you will have to have an MD or in some states a PA (physician is asst) to actually write the script, but ultimately the best help you will gain is through therapy. good luck.

Go to ur MD (general practitioner - GP) first, & s/he can then refer u to a counselor/psychologist. At least that is how it works in Canada - then u do not have to pay out of pocket for the psychologist.
It could be different in other countries, of course.
The best success rates for treating anxiety/panic disorders come with treating with both counseling AND medication - the MD/GP can prescribe the medication (SSRIs). The 2nd best success rate is medicine alone. The 3rd best is counselling alone. Worst - do nothing at all.

you would need to see a psychologist and the only way you can do this is if you see your Doctor , explain to him that you need help in this area and he will offer you the best doctor for you. Sometimes its not always a psychologist. l hope this helps and that you start to heal soon..all the best
