If no one likes you 'cause you're the new kid, how do you start to make friends? And should you go to the school dance? Or stay far away from school social activities?

Be pleasant and by all means join in social activities.

Well staying away from the social activities is not going to make u any friends- so that is not really a workable solution. It is not that nobody likes you, dear- nobody knows you. Start making friends one person at a time. Before class starts, make eye contact with somebody near u & ask them something about the homework. Maybe it was hard, boring, whatever. Ask if they found it that way too. See a girl in a shirt u like? Introduce yourself, give her the honest compliment & ask where it came from & if it is a cool place to shop. Admit that u r new in town & would like some advice on where to go shop, whatever. Join a group or club, where the people share ur interests. Do not just wait for somebody to approach you, u need to dive in & do the introducing yourself. Quit standing there feeling like u r on the outside, & get yourself inside. That is the only way u can do it. If u ride a bus, talk to the folks on the bus with you. If u walk, watch out for who is walking the same direction & ask to join them, or invite them to join you. But whatever u do, do not crawl into a shell & wait for somebody to peek inside. You will end up waiting a long time that way. Time to crawl out now & look around.

This may be a bad attitude, but what is school for? Last time l checked it was not a popularity contest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting friends; social skills are necessary in life. If you have to ask for advice on making friendsthough, perhaps you should stick to the basment playing Nintendo.

l am pretty sure that as long as u can be a kind & respectful person, other people will start to like u better. You have to be careful on what u do in the beginning, because everyone will judge u on the first move u make as the 'new' kid.. You do not have to worry about friends, because eventually people will come along & share the same interests as you. l am not really sure if you're able to go to the school dance, since really u have not been around in that school as much. It is better to know the people around u more than just to hang around a place for a couple hours without knowing anyone. It is better to be just safe mentally than trying to go along with the flow.. Do not worry though friend, l am confident that things will get better as time goes on..
