Anyone l have ever been to offer suggestions, opinions and it feels like a conversation with a friend then a professional job on their parts..Im seeing one just now and she cant do anything for me. l have problems with social anxiety..And she comes up with ineffectual suggestions for my situation...l cry for an hour and she says 'i understand' and then does not see me for 2 weeks..So in actuality my 'suffering' didnt register..It seems such a 'non job'..No course of action is drawn up, no help..She seems as lost as myself..One goes to a therapist for 'hope' above all things hope..the idea that there can be a better tomorrow..and if someone does not have the authority or commandor the true expertise to do more then just listen and has no ideas by the end of the session, what can a person do?? Are there any therapists in this world who really empathise, really turn your life around? Give you the impetus to do so..It seems such an idle job. It is heartbreaking..it is disappointing..and l think it destroys lives it is your own responsibility of course..but some people are too far gone then to have some self righteous person with text book psychology tell you to use 'l feel statements' when you're angry with someone..l have known that since l was fourteen..! Stop being so generic and impersonal..its not helpful ..complete BS..She is a lovely woman..But are not therapists supposed to truly help?? This is college counselling..l am twenty Tink you are an extraordinarily unlikeable poster.. l am going for my higher diploma in psychology next year and a large part of therapy as outlined in the seminal psychoanalytical text ' the road less travelled' by Scott M Peck is to act lovingly..To manifest it in ones behaviour for the benefit of another..To help them to grow..And you are just one of those people in this schizoid, self centred world where people do not care for anyone unless they benefit themselves..You would be an awful therapist..As you have such a snotty, belligerent attitude That is not truth, that is ignorance..
And l fervently believe that..l help myself yes of course l am not resistant to treatment..Any progress l have made has been through my own effort..but l still think a psychologists job is to really help..It is a human centred, emotional job, they're not freaking accountants..They are supposed to have some sentient response for things to be effective..'Frothy emotionalism' has nothing to do with it..neither whining..Bloody hell

The mental health profession leaves a lot to be desired. However, YOU are the consumer and you owe your therapist nothing. If this one is not working for you, find one who does.

Not all psychiatrists/therapists are like that and therapy does not ''destroy lives''. Find a better therapist.

So you write off all therapists and counsellors from your experience with just one?
You do not go to a therapist for hope, you go to resolve emotional problems. The process usually consists of letting the client talk and for them then to reflect back what you are really saying. Through the reflection the client can discover what needs to change. l works.
If you do not get on with her - change. Part of the process is to start to make your own decisions.

Heil Kitler has a very good point. You would not pay a tradesman a second time if they did nothing for you. Same goes. Have you tried looking into different types of therapy? Particularly if you're paying for it.

The answer is quite simple - you are seeing the wrong type of therapist for your problem It sounds like you are seeing a person centred counsellor when what you need is a psychologist who deals in pure behavioural techniques. Are you in the UK? If so ask your doctor to refer you to a clinical psychologist who is trained in using behavioural techniques.

You sit there crying - & hope for ur suffering to ''register''? Guess what - her job is not to feel ur suffering. Guess what else - ur job is to go in there & be proactive about ur recovery - not just whine about how u feel. It seems u want her to take command of ur life - that is ur responsibility, to live ur own life. She is not ur friend, so dont expect her to be sympathetic. She is a paid professional whose job is to provide possible solutions Try applying her 'intellectual' solutions..so far frothy emotionalism does not seem to be working for you.
Sorry if that seems cold hearted, but its the truth.

It sounds as though you are resistive to treatment. You can only re-ceive what you are putting into it. If you are not willing to change they cant change you. Therapy is a relationship and l dont see you putting effort into it, just complaining.

Most of them do CARE but they r constricted in what they can do by guidelines set up by lawyers . My therapist /counselor called the police on me once -she said she had to- l told her to f-off & every counselor tells me the same thing -if they feel l am a danger to myself or others they r required by law to contact authorities -so now when l go l sit there quietly til time is up- l am required to attend -not participate - l show up, sit there in agony -and say nothing - l am so depressed now that l can barely get out of bed but why call them when l will just end up in a-jail or b- a lock down ward -both times just long enough to have my disability check cut off for that month-leaving me unable to pay rent -so then l am homeless for 2-3 months until l can get a new place i will never reveal my true feelings to another counselor as long as l live .

It sounds like u would like to see a counselor more often then u do. Find a therapist that will see u every week. Discuss with the new therapist what did not work with the last one. Tell the therapist what is helpful for u & what is not helpful. This is how u get what u need out of therapy. The college counselor probably does not delve deeply into each person is problems. l hope u find a therapist u feel comfortable working with. The right therapist makes all the difference. Good Luck.

This is why l stopped pursuing that profession after l got my BA. l think their hands are tied so they can only phrase things a certain way.
l have yet to find a therapist that can help me with all of my problems.
You may do better by keeping a journal and reviewing your thoughts from time to time. l wish you the best.

They are silly and dangerous middle class women who become therapists as there is nothing else they can do with their shallow lives. They think ''Well, l can sort my friends out, l will be a counsellor'' They do not speak your language, you will have to learn to speak theirs. Only 1 in 10 knows what they are doing, the rest are useless and destructive arseholes.

honest truth ive had theiapy since l was 13 im 23 now.it comes down to you,you have to be the one to want to change they can listen talk 2 you give skills and coping mechanisams but sorry to say it you have to want to work with them 2 change

Most therapists can quote the book and a lot are indeed helpfull but unless a person has gone through a mental illness then l reckon they just can not understand fully as they do not have that view point.
