l was always absentminded and forgetful. a period of heavy drinking has made my memory worse. l dont rember names no matter how hard l try. but what is worse is that l am driving my hubby crazy misplacing my keys, mobile phones all the time. is there any cure?
l have stopped drinking past 2 years . being a writer l was always very careless.

Well it is good you know it was your drinking to worsen it. If you have not stopped drinking, that would certainly help. Also, getting lots of sleep will strengthen your memory. If the problem progresses and seems serious, see a doctor.

Ok. to drink alcohol is not making things better but then l do not think it is so easy to quite it immediately either. - Maybe a first step is to try to get used with non alcoholic drinks. - They r not so bad as it sounds like.

l cured myself from a similar situation by writing down in my calendar whenever l placed cell phone in a place that l not carried with me. - If l left it in the kitchen l noted it in the calendar for then, when l wanted to have it, just checking it in the calendar.

Then, when l felt safe with that, l began to only write clues about where l had placed it. Like drawing a picture of a stove.

Finally l began to try to write the notes in my mind only.

Today l am far from perfect but average in misplacing things. Although what l am proud of is that l usually locate it back from checking my memory calendar.

If ur hubby r driven crazy because of ur situation u should ask him to wait to the day he is getting old.

Brain damage from the alcohol could be the culprit. Having my own history of recreational indulgences, l too am having memory problems. Abstinence, as mentioned in another reply, is the best cure. l know of no instant fixes. l read the book called ''Change Your Brain, Change Your Life by Daniel Amen. Inside the book he shows how the brain is affected by alcohol using SPECT scans, photos of brains before & after a period of one years abstinence. You can see in black & white the ''wet brain & an improved brain after a year of abstinence.(A wake up call for me, personally).. However, the culmination of damage may or may not go away completely ,depending on individual tolerances to the toxins ingested.
Good ''live source'' vitamin supplements have helped me. laying off the processed foods. Avoiding products with artificial sweetners, which have been shown to mess up some peoples memory. 20 minutes of aerobic exercise has the same effect as one ritalin & a prozac tablet. Hope this helps....
