l used to hurt myself but I am trying not to. l hear voices in my head and l feel like I am breaking and I am going to completely snap. I am only 14 tho, and l do not know what to do. If l need to go to a mental institution, could you give me a name for a good one? Are they expensive?

It sounds like you need some counseling at least, try a mental health/mental retardation center in your area. Do not panic, call a crisis hotline number, look in the front of your phone book for the numbers or in the yellow pages. Good Luck!!

Have u talked to ur doctor or parents about this? This is definently a serious issue, but does not mean that u have to go to a metal institution. But what u do need to do is see or talk to ur doctor who will refer u to a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist should be sufficient in giving u the proper medications to control ur symptoms. Even though it is probably hard, do NOT think that u r crazy. u aren't. It is most like a chemical imbalance in ur brain or some other type of disorder that can be controlled by medication & is not u fault. Whatever u do, PLEASE talk to ur doctor or parents or anyone to get an appointment ASAP before anything bad could happen.

You need to speak with your parents or guardians. It sounds like you could be schizophrenic. You should definitely see a doctor and be checked out, because the condition is managable when treated. Good luck

Unless u r leaving out very important information, from what u have said so far, u do not need to be in a hospital. However, l do think it would be an excellent idea to see a mental health professional for an assessment. There r many reasons why a person might hear voices. Did u know that most people who hear voices DO NOT have schizophrenia? It does not necessarily mean u have a chemical imbalance either. Getting some professional input (including psychiatric) can really help ease ur mind.

It must be very scary not understanding what is going on. l do not know where u are, so l can not really point u to a specific place. You can try to do an internet seach on ''mental health clinic'' for ur city, state, or country to find out where u can get that assessment. Do u think ur parents will be supportive? If not, u can talk with ur guidance counselor, school nurse, or other trusted adult who may be able to convince them to get u that assessment.

l agree with 'eryops'. the first step is that u need to tell either ur parents or a school teacher u trust (maybe the guidance councilor, that is what they're there for!) u r too young to try to sort this out on ur own, so get an adult involved. very likely u can be seen at a local office or hospital so u probably wo not need to worry about an ''institution'' at all. remember that the adults in ur life r there to protect & take care of you, so let them do that. ;> good luck!
