If you attempt suicide, is it compulsory for you to be put in a mental hospital?

not necessarily, its clear that that person needs help with their issues, but if that person is watched 24 hours a day at home, then they might consider staying at home. Its not really a mental hospital, that just sounds bad, its more like a place where you can get help with your issues before its too late

In most states, YES. In California it is called a 5150, or 72 hour involuntary detention for being a danger to self or others, or gravely disabled, as a result of a diagnosed mental illness

YES IT IS! BY LAW IN EACH STATE! Until they deem you fit to leave. l have tried 3 times and was put in the hosp. 3 times each time for 13 days. please dont do! SEEK HELP! PLEASE!

no it isn't. just happened to my family member & once his injuries were treated - he was allowed home. however, he did go to visit a psychiatrist & counsellor to help him through his troubled times.which helped a lot.& that was provided by the NHS.thankfully!

No. Not everyone who commits or attempts to commit suicide is mentally ill. Just like not everyone who commits murder is mentally ill. Some people who commit or attempts to commit suicide is just a really unhappy indivudal who has lost themselves and feel that dying is their only option. Stop blaming mental illness for everything.

No. It depends on the severity of the attempt and who you talk to after. If it is a therapist it is really up to their judgement/your parents(if you're under 18).

(a) 1. The person has refused voluntary examination after conscientious explanation & (a) disclosure of the purpose of the examination; or
(a) 2. The person is unable to determine for himself or herself whether the examination is (a) necessary; &

Without care or treatment, the person is likely to suffer from neglect or refuse to care for himself or herself; such neglect or refusal poses a real & present threat of substantial harm to his or her well-being; & it is not apparent that such harm may be avoided through the help of willing family members or friends or the provision of other services; or
(a) 2. There is a substantial likelihood that without care or treatment the person will cause serious bodily harm to himself or herself or others in the near future, as evidenced by recent behavior.

l am having a hard time at the moment but go to the doctor and ask to see a physiologist or counsellor, l know your thinking they wo not be able to help or understand but they can and will.

In my experience, yes, or to be very, very closely monitored at home with the crisis team on stand by and visiting twice or more a day. And never left alone.

no now a days it is not unussual to hear about someone trying to commit sucide ussually they just go to a shrink

It depends on what the on call doctor thinks at the time, if u r considered well enough u r discharged in the UK the law states it is all voluntary, treatment & stay that is, however it all depends on the circumstances, someone could be detained if the attempt was clearly serious enough, if considered a cry for help then an out patient appointment is offered voluntary. If repeated attempts r made or they r serious enough a section can be used to force treatment. On the other hand the attempt maybe successful so that is not an option

At 16 l feel sure treatment would be forced, in an adult psychiatric ward which l am sure u will find extremely unpleasant

No not in the uk and im talking from experience well several in a short space of time,but im not 16 and l have a mental health illness that makes me prone to impulsive behaviours, please seek help, at your age you could well end up in a psychiatric ward and l have spent 2 weeks in one ,i wasnt forced,but these are seriously not nice places to be in ....

YES if you are are danger to yourself you will be committed.
